Why do this?

Probably the best place to start here is to talk a bit about what this is all about.

The older I get and the more I speak with my grandfather, the less I feel I know about the world. Sure, I can guide him through setting up a blog (I've done it before, after all), but that's so minor compared to all the problems I'm facing now. Just today I went to Jiffy Lube to fix up my car - my vague working knowledge of how an engine works is never enough to understand a friggin word they tell me. Hours on the phone with my dad and everything was fine, but I was left thinking, "What Would Poppy Do?"

And the more I speak with my grandfather, the more I realize that his job as a library of everything for my family is getting closer to an end. Here's an email Poppy sent me the other day (yes, he emails):

Heard you are becoming a repair maven. Let me know your accomplishments and at the proper time I'll will you my Mr.Fixit T shirt. Love PoppyD

Dammit, I want that shirt. But that means exploring the untold troves of information in my Poppy's mind - and why not share it with you?

So here are some questions to start you off Poppy:

-What was your relationship like with your father and your grandfather?
-Why did you agree to do this?
